posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Japanese satellite television channel Eisei Gekijō will air the Ginga Tetsudo 999 Sayonara Maetel ~ Boku no Eien (Galaxy Express 999 Goodbye Maetel ~ My Eternity) stage play on November 24 and December 1 at 4:00 p.m. The first airing will feature a performance with Haruka Kinoshita as Maetel, and the second will feature Anju Inami. The television broadcast will be the play's first.

The previous Ginga Tetsudo 999 Galaxy Opera stage play will also air on Eisei Gekijō on December 31 at 7:45 p.m.

Ginga Tetsudo 999 Galaxy Opera, the first new stage play to mark the 40th anniversary of Leiji Matsumoto's Galaxy Express 999 manga and anime franchise, ran in Tokyo, Kitakyushu, and Osaka in July 2018. The sequel play ran in Tokyo's Meiji-za Theater from April 20 to 29, and in Osaka's Umeda Arts Theater from May 10 to 12.

The story of the anime and manga follows a young orphan named Tetsurō as he travels with a mysterious woman named Maetel through the galaxy on a space train, in the hopes of obtaining a cybernetic body. The train stops at many planets along the way, often leading to adventures for the two.
