The Edit List
Tenchi Muyou OVA International Channel Episodes 1-6

by Kyle Pope,
It would appear that Cartoon Network's rights to Tenchi Muyou have expired and have since been sold to the International Channel as they have started airing the first OVA series as of August 12th, 2003. This should prove very enlightening to those of you who have only seen the Toonami/Adult Swim version and do not have the unedited DVDs. I am guessing now that these edit lists will be very short as International Channel doesn't normally edit its anime. So those of you who wanted to see what you were missing from CN's airings will now get your chance.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 01: Ryouko Resurrectedx

1) ED deleted.

Well other than that the episode was completely unedited. Things are going to get interesting in another three weeks.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 02: Here Comes Aeka

1) ED deleted. (This will be a given from now on.)

Episode #4 is going to be very interesting indeed.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 03: Hello Ryououki

1) Completely unedited.

Next week is going to be fun.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 04: Mihoshi Falls to the Land of Stars

1) Completely unedited.

Cartoon Network may have lost the rights to Tenchi Muyou but they kept the rights to the digital bikinis they designed for the show. So International Channel was forced to air this episode without them.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 05: Kagato Attacks

1) Completely unedited.

One more episode to go in the first OVA. Let's see if they can keep this up.

Tenchi Muyou OVA 06: We Need Tenchi!

1) End of episode past the point where Ryouko conspires to get a hug from Tenchi after their victory over Kagato cut.

Tragically this was not really an edit. Editing implies some measure of skill and deliberation. This was a brutal hack performed by barbarians to fit this episode into a timeslot that was too short for it. While I may not have been happy with the edits Cartoon Network did on its run of TM, I did understand why they were necessary from CN's viewpoint. And they did ultimately treat the property with respect. I'm afraid this sort of thing is going to cost International Channel some credibility as an outlet for anime.
