Larry Kenney, who was the voice of Lion-O in the original series, plays Lion-O's father Claudus in this series. He was the only cast member from the original series to do voice work for the remake. 

Jim Meskimen, the character designer of the original series, currently does voice work in this series. 

In this series, Snarf is not a talking cat. The decision to change Snarf's character was presumably out of respect for the late Bob McFadden, who voiced the character in the original series. 

In episode "Legacy" Mon*Star from "Silverhawks" (another classic 80's cartoon)has a quick cameo on a video screen. 

In episode 5, Panthro tells Lion-O that he is stepping on his Samoflange. This is a reference to an infamous blooper recording from the original series.
