Trivia:

While bearing similarities to the Fritz Lang film of the same name, Tezuka has stated in the manga that he only saw the poster when he wrote the manga.

Initially delayed, due to concern that its images of crumbling skyscrapers would shock people traumatized by 9/11, it actually did well enough for Sony to extend its theatrical run for a few more months.

In one of the scenes in the movie, a map can be seen behind Kenichi's head as he talks to Tima. The map is of the Canadian province of Ontario, and several city names can be easily read when the film is paused (Oakville, Mississauga, Windsor, etc..).

Rock is the only character who didn't originate from the original manga. He was added to this movie to make the story more interesting to watch.

Tezuka Osamu never wanted the manga to be adapted into an anime of any kind of format for reasons unknown. The permission to adapt the manga into a movie didn't became possible until sometime after Tezuka past away. Rintaro has made a joke, that with the many changes added to the movie, Tezuka probably would of hated it.

It was in production for 5 years.

A total of 150,000 animation cells were used.

At the very end of the Japanese theatrical version of the movie, after the credits, there is a photograph fortelling a happy ending for the two main characters. This photograph was cut in the US version for reasons unknown.
