Trivia:

The name of the main battleship "Nirvana" is named after the Buddhist/Hindu term of enlightening of the mind and soul.

Almost every main character in Vandread is an archeotype of the main characters of the Sakura Wars anime and game series: Hibiki-Ohgami (Only male characte able to pilot a mecha), Dita-Erica/Sakura (Clutzy girl in love with the main male character), Jura-Sumire/Glycine (Snobbish, arrogant girl), Meia-Maria/Reni/Lobelia (Cold girl with a tragic past), Gascoigne-Kanna (Tomboy-ish girl), Barnette-Orihime (Man-hating girl), Paiway-Iris (Cute, little girl with a stuffed animal), Parfait-Kouran (Genius girl with glasses), BC-The Fujieda sisters (Second-in-command girl), Magno-Yoneda (Paternalistic old man/woman and leader), Bart/Duero-Kayama (Funny, handsome guy who helps the main male character), Ezra-Kasumi (Old sister type girl, except that Kasumi doesn't get pregnant)

The end credit animations of Hibki as he run across the screen mimics his cockpit interaction with the 3 women he joins with. With Dita he sits behind her so in the animation shows him pushing her. With Meia he sits in front of her so she rides his back. And with Jura his cockpit spins so she spins around him.

In the first episode of the series, when Dita first meets Hibiki, she performs a hand gesture, which Hibiki proceeds to copy. This hand gesture is one of the methods of communication used in Steven Spielburg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" to communicate with the aliens.
