Trivia:

The first section of the Fushigi Yuugi OVA actually never meant to happen. It was there to fill in a plot hole caused by the end of the anime, which differed from the end of the manga. In order to continue the anime, as the producers wanted to, a difference between their and Miss Watase's ending had to be changed. This explains a bit of OVA 1's confusing layout.
