Trivia:

Most character names are after famous warplanes, such as Sukhoi Su-27 "Flanker", Panavia Tornado, Hawker Fury, Dassault Rafale, Junkers Ju-87 Stuka, Nakajima B6N1/2 Tenzan, etc. Nene is one of Rolls-Royce's earliest jet engine, and her last name is from British Handley Page Hampton bomber during the early days of WWII. Val Whitley's first name is Japanese Aichi Type 99 D3A1/2 "Val" dive bomber, while his last name is from British Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bomber. Arthur Griffen's last name could have come from Heinkel He-177 Greif (Griffin). The name of the nation is "Fulcrum," NATO's codename for Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29. Tenzan's weapon is Russian sniper rifle Dragunov. Note the spelling may have been twisted a little due to transliteration to/from katakana.

In the ending theme, the third book Rafarew was reading is "Galaxy Express 999" by Leiji Matsumoto.
