Trivia:

David R. Ellis was initially the film's director, however part way through filming Ellis was found dead in the bathroom of his Johannesburg hotel room. As a result Ralph Ziman took over as director.

Prior to the release of this film, Rob Cohen was attached to the project as either director or producer while it was in various stages of pre-production.

This film is significantly more toned-down compared to what the original Kite OAV had. It is based on the 45 minute censored Kite OAV version (Rated 16+ by Animé Works), and not the uncut rated 18+ version that was released by Kitty Media.

The character Karl Aker is based on Akai from the original Kite OAV.
