And would leap from its peak upon completion to his presumed death. Lupin’s goal is to steal a fossil of an angel. Illustrator Yoshitaka Amano was even hired for the concept art during the planning stages and his work was even published in various magazines sold in Japan. The other source claimed that the plot would of had Lupin suspected of stealing fiction and that he would not be seen at all throughout the film.

The last phrase of the mobsters’ marching chant is from a Japanese kids game very similar to Red Rover called “Hana-Ichi-Monme”. The name means “A monme for a flower”, and a monme is an old Japanese coin. In the game, each side has a team captain that plays Rock-Paper-Scissors (Jan-Ken-Pon) against the other captain. The winning side picks who comes over to their side after each go. There is a chant-like song that goes with the whole thing, and this part is spoken by the losing side.

Charles “Lucky” Luciano was known for developing the modern mafia in the early 20th century. He became one of the most powerful crime bosses in recent history. One of his more famous creations was the hitman-for-hire program developed during the 1930’s named “Murder, Inc”. Luciano’s alleged pursuit of buried Babylonian wealth was purely fabricated.

Lupin’s original Japanese line “Cognac? You can EAT Konjac for all I care!” Cognac is a type of brandy named after a town in France. While Konjac is a Japanese health food made of a Japan grown type of potato and calcium from eggshells. Lupin of course made this pun due to the similar pronunciations of the two word. Since no one in the US would known what Konjac is, a different pun was chosen for the Discotek Blu-ray & DVD versions.

Keith Silverstein who does the English voice of Willy, previously did Lupin III’s voice for the English dub of “Lupin IIIrd: Daisuke Jigen’s Gravestone”.
