Trivia:

Originally, Harmony Gold's plan was to have Super Dimension Fortress Macross broadcast on U.S. television. However, at 36 episodes, Macross was too short for syndication. To meet with the minimum requirements of TV syndication, Harmony Gold merged Macross with two unrelated anime titles - Super Dimension Knight Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada to form Robotech.

Prior to the release of the TV series in the U.S., Robotech was the name of a product line by model kit manufacturer Revell that consisted of imported and licensed kits from the anime series Macross, Mospeada and Super Dimension Century Orguss.

Storywise, The Macross Saga retains majority of the elements of the original Macross storyline. Characters and settings of The Robotech Masters and The New Generation arcs, however, are very different from their original Southern Cross and Mospeada storylines, respectively, due to Harmony Gold's necessity to make the two series compatible with Macross.

According to Richard Epcar, Harmony Gold made all of the voice actors stay up all night to record their lines for each episode.
