Trivia:

Around 60 to 70 people were auditioned for the seiyuu of each and every character in the movie. Director Mamoru Oshii specifically wanted Kikuchi Rinko to be the voice for the character Kusanagi Suito. When asked for the reason, Mamoru replied that he based it on "intuition".

While Director Mamoru Oshii initially wanted the radio conversations between the pilots that were in English to be spoken with difficulty for realism, the scripting was eventually made fluent for easier understanding by the English proficient seiyuu cast.

The location setting was based on a fictitious Europe in the film instead of Japan in the original novel series. For this, location hunting for the film was done in Ireland and Poland.

The trailer that was distributed by the local Japanese internet television service GyaO had directors Anno Hideaki, Higuchi Shinji and Yukisada Isao taking a part in its production.

During the bombing attack on Lautern the fighter squadrons (Able, Baker, Charlie) are named after US nuclear weapons tests undertaken as part of Operation Crossroads in 1946 and 1947.
