Many characters and towns in the series are named after cocktails and hard liquor; most obvious being Vodka, Cognac, Rum, Sherry, Vermouth, Pernod, Stout and Cidre.

Fino is the driest and palest of all types of sherry.

Angostura bitter is an herb used to make cocktails bittersweet.

Drambuie is a scotch whiskey liquor made from aged malt whiskey, heather honey and a secret blend of herbs and spices.

Mimosa is three parts champagne and two parts orange juice concentrate.

Izarra is a sweet liqueur made in Bayonne in the French Basque Country. It's made from Pyrenean herbs and other flavoring ingredients.

Pernod Ricard is a French-based liquor company that owns Chivas Regal, Wild Turkey, Kahlúa, Beefeater gin, Sauza tequila, just to name a few.

Postino (which is Italian for "postman") is a parody of the self-titled main character in David Brin's 1985 post-apocalyptic novel The Postman, which was adapted into film by Kevin Costner in 1997.
