Following immense success with his works in Toho's Godzilla films, visual effects artist Eiji Tsuburaya (1901-1970) founded Tsuburaya Productions in 1963. The company continued to produce special effects for Godzilla movies until 1966, when they introduced its first original series, Ultra-Q. In that same year, Tsuburaya became the leading force in tokusatsu (special effects) cinema when it created Ultraman.
