One Piece is one of the most current popular manga in Japan and it is recently being printed in the U.S. in the new American Shonen Jump.
One Piece's art is inspired by the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons, according to a interview between Eiichiro ODA and Shonen Jump USA. If you look close at the manga art you can see many similarities between One Piece and Tom and Jerry.
Pandaman is a creature who frequently appears in the manga's background. Pandaman first appeared in volume 5 chapter 44. Since his first appearance it has become a past time of many devout manga fans to try and find this mysterious character as many times as they can.
Roronoa Zoro was originally planned to be introduced as Buggy the Clown's bodyguard.
Admiral Kizaru, Aokiji and Akainu are based on actual Japanese actors. They were modeled after Kunie Tanaka, Yûsaku Matsuda and Bunta Sugawara respectively.
In 2008 One Piece became the highest circulating manga series.
