Raito's name can be translated to either Light or Write. Light as in bringing light and justice into the world, and write as in 'writing in the death note.'
In The 1st volume over 1000 people were killed
Throughout the manga L is usually seen eating different foods and Near is usually seen doing some sort of puzzle.
There are 108 chapters in Death Note. In Japan, at the end of the year, a bell is chimed 108 times to finish the old year and welcome the new one. Each ring represents one of 108 earthly temptations a person must overcome to achieve nirvana.
Kira means light or dark lady. It is also said like killer.
Death Note was banned in parts of China after it was discovered that some students had been altering their notebooks to resemble the titular Death Note and writing real people's names.
In the first chapter when Light is inside a book store reading a magazine, you can see a shinigami looking figure on the top left panel. And a shinigami on the cover.
Also, after Light writes Takuo's name incorrectly 5 times and correctly once, in the second panel of the next page, you can see the name is spelled correctly 4 times.
There are 13 shinigami shown through-out the whole series.
