(1926) Moved to Houston, Texas when he was 10-years-old. Worked at the Houston Post as a copy boy, cub reporter and had a paper route.
(1933) He volunteered to help demonstrate an experimental version of television at the Chicago World's Fair.
(1939) He joined United Press International Reported on major battles of World War II.
(1940) Married Mary Elizabeth Maxwell.
(1945) Reported on the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals.
(1950) He was signed to CBS by Edward R. Morrow.
(1952) He was the first reporter to be named "anchor". President Harry Truman escorted Cronkite on first televised tour of White House.
(1963-11-22) He was first reporter to tell American people of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
(1968-04-04) He reported the assassination of Martin Luther King.
(1968-06-06) He reported the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
(1969) He received the William A. White Award for journalistic merit.
(1969-07-20) He reported on Apollo XI Moon Landing, it was the only news broadcast where he was speechless when seeing the first man on the moon.
(1971) He received the George Polk Journalism Award.
(1981) Was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
(1997) Released his autobiogprahy, "A Reporter's Life".
(1999) Inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians.
(2003-12) Underwent surgery to repair a previously injured achilles tendon.
(2005-03-15) His wife past away three weeks before their 65th anniversary.
