Ultimately Missions of Love still reads like a sexy book for middle schoolers. Yukina is far from a likeable heroine, neither Shigure nor Akira come off as particularly desirable male leads, and the less savory elements of the story detract from its romance components.

A must-read for any fan of the Boogiepop franchise, this first book in Seven Seas' undersized Lite Novel line definitively describes the franchise's crucial five-years-past backstory, including the origin of Boogiepop. It is an absorbing, chilling, and easy-to-read diversion.
