Despite its uncomfortable premise, there could scarcely be a more exuberant, motormouthed way of making it work. Rants about its subversive nature aside, Hetalia is the simplest of pleasures: a gag show. By all rights it shouldn't be as popular as it is, but there's nothing else out there quite like it, whether you find it brilliant or abysmal.
