One of Hong Kong's most famous directors, John Woo's many partnerships with Chow Yun-Fat made them both very famous world-wide. Woo started directing North American films with Hard Target (1993, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme) and had major success with Broken Arrow (1996, starring John Travolta and Christian Slater), Face/Off (1997, starring Travolta and Nicholas Cage) and Mission: Impossible 2 (2000, starring Tom Cruise). He has not directed a movie in Asia since Hard Boiled (starring Chow Yun-Fat) in 1992; he has, however produced a few, including The Peace Hotel and the upcoming Appleseed sequel.
