For years he provided the "Scrap Scratch! - Original SF Mechanism" column in the monthly magazine Hobby Japan. This two-page feature consisted of an illustration and text explaining an original mechanical design, photographs of a model of the mechanism, and a short comic involving it in an ongoing story. Subjects ranged from military equipment, cars and aircraft to powered suits, giant robots and mechanical insects. The first installment was in Hobby Japan's July 1997 issue, and it ran monthly until at least mid-2001.
