Tokyopop Indicates Possibility of Novels on E-Readers

posted on 2011-02-04 19:40 EST
Low sales of Full Metal Panic! novels may prevent future releases

In a Thursday web post, the editors at the North American publisher Tokyopop addressed the questions from fans about several of its light novels, such as Twelve Kingdoms and Kino no Tabi.

The post indicated that the Full Metal Panic! light novel series may not have received enough support to continue publication, but that strong sales of the recently published fourth volume "might change minds on continuing." Tokyopop released the volume on Tuesday, and it is currently available at the company's website as a print-on-demand title.

The Thursday post also addressed fan suggestions to put manga on e-reader devices. While explaining the difficulties of making manga readable on e-reader screens, the post indicates that there is a possibility that Tokyopop will attempt to sell light novels in a digital form, pending licensing negotiations with Japanese copyright owners.
