Latest in female-oriented historical games that inspired anime

The game developer Idea Factory announced on Wednesday that it will release Hakuōki: Bakumatsu Musō-roku, the newest entry in its Hakuōki historical romance adventure game franchise for female players, next February. The franchise recounts the exploits of the Japanese shogunate's legendary Shinsengumi warriors, from the perspective of a young woman who aids their mission.

The otome game will ship for the PSP system at a price to be determined. The teaser site is already online, and the official full site will open in the near future.

The first anime series based on Idea Factory's Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan game aired last year, and the second television series, Hakuōki Hekketsu-roku, premiered last October. The new Hakuōki Sekkaroku video series just launched last week.

Aksys Games announced at Anime Expo that it will release the first Hakuōki game in North America.

Update: A screenshot indicates that the new game will be an action game, similar to the Dynasty Warriors (Shin Sangoku Musō) franchise, with in-game footage from the anime adaptations.
