5-member girl pop groups battled in a 5-round singing showdown

A singing battle between the female pop groups Momoiro Clover Z and TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE will stream on the Ustream website at 10:00 p.m. JST on Friday. The event took place in front of a live audience at the Yokohama Blitz event hall on Tuesday.

The two five-member girl groups competed in five rounds with Momoiro Clover Z and TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE each singing one song. The performers sang a variety of their own music, matching or contrasting the opposing side's piece.

One of Momoiro Clover Z's selections was the "Rōdō Sanka" song from the group's newest single CD of the same name. TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE also performed "Liar" from their latest single titled Liar/W.M.A.D. Both of the pop groups' single CDs shipped on Wednesday.

The 1,250-person audience voted with colored slips of paper to determine the winner of the musical showdown. With 652 votes, Momoiro Clover Z triumphed over TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE, who received 598 votes. After Momoiro Clover Z sang "Chai Maxx" as a victory celebration, the all ten pop singers performed together.

Before the singing duel, the two girl groups expressed respect for each others' work along with their desires to win.

Momoiro Clover Z's Battle and Romance, the group's first album, debuted at #3 on Oricon's weekly album sales chart after its July 27 release. TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE sang "Boku no Tegami" for ZONE's ZONE Tribute ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ tribute album earlier this year.
