Yuki CD with Kids on the Slope Theme Ranks #3

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Single with song composed by Yoko Kanno sells 21,461 copies in 5 days

Former Judy and Mary vocalist YUKI's latest single "Playball," which also contains the theme song "Sakamichi no Melody" for the Kids on the Slope television anime series, sold 21,461 copies during the April 30-May 6 week to rank at #3 on Oricon's chart.

YUKI teamed up with prolific soundtrack composer Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus/Frontier, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) to make the theme song. YUKI had written the lyrics, and Kanno had composed the music for the song.

The single was originally released on May 2. The limited-edition version bundles a DVD and retails for 1,500 yen (about US$19), and the regular edition retails for 1,020 yen (about US$13).

It has been six years since YUKI last contributed a song to an anime on Fuji TV's late-night Noitamina programming block; YUKI performed theme songs for both seasons of Honey and Clover. Kanno is also producing the rest of the soundtrack for Kids on the Slope. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and Sentai Filmworks will release the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
