009 Re:Cyborg Movie Inspires Exclusive Watch

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Only 999 watches produced for film's October 27 premiere

The Japanese manufacturer Imperial Enterprises, Inc. (I.E.I.) has started taking reservations for a limited edition 009 Re:Cyborg watch. The self-winding watch's design was supervised by film director Kenji Kamiyama, and features a red face with gold buttons (to match the characters' uniforms) attached to a stainless steel band with the edition number inscribed on the back. Members of the film's production committee were given editions 001 through 008, while Kamiyama was given edition number 009.

The watch retails at 48,500 yen (about USD$610) and includes a custom case. Orders will ship in late October.

009 Re:Cyborg, which is Kamiyama's first in full-3D animation, re-imagines Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science fiction manga Cyborg 009. In the original manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war.

The film will open in Japan on October 27, and it will also open simultaneously in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea. The Facebook page for PH9 Global, the official account for director Kenji Kamiyama's titles, revealed that an English script for his upcoming 009 Re:Cyborg anime film is in development.
