X Japan band leader and songwriter Yoshiki started an auction on Friday for a chance to sing and record an X Japan song, with a piano accompaniment by Yoshiki himself. The artist is holding the auction to support Make-a-Wish Japan. Yoshiki announced the fundraiser at an official dinner celebrating the organization's 20th year.
The auction winner will be able to record one song with Yoshiki in a studio located in Los Angeles or Tokyo, and the winner may bring one guest to the session. The recipient can choose a song but it must have been composed by Yoshiki. After the recording, the winner will receive a copy on an audio CD. Travel and accommodation costs are not covered by the prize.
The auction will end on Friday, November 2 at 17:29:52 Japan Standard Time (4:29:52 a.m. EDT).
Yoshiki auctioned a 90-minute private dinner for charity earlier this year. The auction closed at US$37,100.
He also auctioned off his custom crystal piano to fund the relief efforts in Japan after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The Yoshiki Foundation, a non-profit organization, collected US$213,658 to help earthquake victims as of September 13.
