Hatsune Miku Video Showcases Opera With Louis Vuitton Designs

posted on by Egan Loo
No humans to appear onstage as Vocaloid idols sing, act on set designed by OMA NY architect

A new video debuted on Thursday to preview The End, the upcoming opera starring the virtual idol Hatsune Miku. Marc Jacobs, the artistic director of famed French fashion brand Louis Vuitton, designed outfits that Miku wears in the show.

Director Toshiki Okada and digital music artist Keiichirō Shibuya debuted the opera at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in Yamaguchi City last December. No humans appear onstage during the opera, even to play the instruments. Instead, Vocaloids take their place, taking over every aria and recitative. The "actors'" onstage are designed by artist YKBX (also known as Masaki Yokobe), who is known for his video "amazarashi." Shohei Shigematsu, an architect and a partner of OMA New York, designed the stage.

The opera is next heading to Tokyo on May 23 and 24.
