The official website for voice actress and singer Sumire Uesaka (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Muromi-san) announced on Sunday that she will sing the opening theme song for the Genshiken Second Season television anime.

The song "Genshi, Joshi wa, Taiyō Datta" will ship on July 10 in a limited-time pressing with the full track and the shortened television version of the song. A separate limited first edition will not have the television version of the theme, but it will have a DVD with a music video for the song. Finally, a standard edition will have the theme song and a song to be named later. All three versions will include the second track "Tetoriashitori" and the vocal-less version of "Genshi, Joshi wa, Taiyō Datta."

Tsutomu Mizushima (Girls und Panzer, Squid Girl, xxxHOLiC, Genshiken OAV, episode director on first Genshiken) is serving as both director and sound director at Production I.G for the new anime. Michiko Yokote is returning from the previous Genshiken projects to supervise the series scripts, and Junichirō Taniguchi (Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku) is the new character designer.

The new anime will premiere this summer.

The Genshiken: Second Season manga by Shimoku Kio continues the adventures of the otaku college club "The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture." Kodansha Comics published the second volume of this manga in North America in March. Del Rey released the first Genshiken manga series as well as the Kujibiki Unbalance spinoff in North America.

Media Blasters licensed the first two Genshiken television anime series, the Genshiken videos, and the Kujibiki Unbalance anime in North America.
