Ghost in the Shell Arise Assault Rifle to be Made Into Toy

posted on by Eric Stimson
Gun will be available in model and electric forms

LayLax, a Japanese airsoft accessory and custom parts maker, has decided to venture into the realm of actually making replica guns. The company is collaborating with Ghost in the Shell creator Masamune Shirow to recreate the assault rifle that appears in the current OAV series Ghost in the Shell Arise.

It will have a quality "similar to the original" thanks to its LayLax custom parts of steel, aluminum and other heavy metals in addition to its design and molding techniques using strengthened polymer resin. LayLax promises that the gun will be tough enough to withstand survival games. It will be produced in two varieties, to be released simultaneously: one a model gun, the other an electric gun.

Here are their respective specifications.

MODEL GUN:

  • Frame main materials: aluminum alloy, resin
  • Operable via trigger, magazine catch, or selector
  • Removable eyepiece replica
  • Mounted on a standard 20-mm Picatinny rail
  • Removable flash suppressor (14-mm screw)
  • Price: 99,800 yen, tax not included (or about $984)

ELECTRIC GUN: Has all of the above specifications, in addition to:

  • Shoots 6-mm BBs
  • Powered by mini-battery
  • Uses joint M-16 magazines <
  • Price: 158,000 yen, tax not included (or about $1,558)

The third episode in the Ghost in the Shell Arise project, "border:3 Ghost Tears," is slated to open in theaters on June 28, 2014.
