Sazae-san Characters Dance to AKB48's "Koi Suru Fortune Cookie"

posted on by Bamboo Dong

For almost a year now, we've been in love with AKB48's "Koi Suru Fortune Cookie," especially the hundreds of videos it's inspired of fans, city employees, mascots, and everyday citizens dancing along.

Luckily, that trend is still ongoing, and now, even famous manga characters have gotten in on the dance action. The latest video features the efforts of the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum, located in Setagaya, Tokyo. Amongst the dancers are characters from Machiko Hasegawa's classic comic, Sazae-san, including title character Sazae, her son Tarao, her husband Masuo, and members of Sazae's family, including her father Namihei (and his twin brother Umihei), her mother Fune, her brother Katsuo, and her little sister Wakame.

In the video, Sazae is talking to fictional novelist Nanbutsu Isasaka, who lives next door.

Nanbutsu: But it's good, the Isono family. Always busy.
Sazae: Excuse me, I'm not bothering your work, am I?
Nanbutsu: Not at all. It's ok.
Sazae: Isasaka-sensei, you always seem so lively.
Nanbutsu: For the longest time, I've always made my body strong.
Sazae: I look forward to another masterpiece.
*phone rings*
Sazae: Oh, excuse me for a second.

Sazae: Hello, this is Isono. Ah! Uncle Umihei (Sazae's father's twin brother).
Umihei: Oh, Sazae. It's been a while. You called about something?
Sazae: Yes, lately Dad hasn't been well. Uncle Umihei, will you come visit Dad sometime?

Afterward, the characters have another conversation.

Namihei (Sazae's father): Huh?
Umihei: Hi! Namihei!
Namihei: Umihei-Oniisan!
Umihei: How are you?
Namihei: You came from Tokyo?
Umihei: For some reason I suddenly wanted to see your face
Namihei: Wow, you surprised me. Are you tired? Then let's go inside…

The video features different landmarks and locales around Setagaya, including Sakurashinmachi, where Hasegawa used to live (and the present location of Sazae-san Street), the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum, as well as the city of Fukuoka, Hasegawa and Sazae's birthplace. It even includes cameos from local celebrities, including actor Tadashi Yokouchi, comic artist Mitsuru Yaku, retired soccer player Tsuyoshi Kitazawa, comedian Kajiwara Yuuta (of the comedy duo "King Kong"), and Olympic gymnast Koji Gushiken. Keep an eye out for Sazae-san cosplayers, too!
