Takara Tomy Gets Surprising Results in Haikyu!! Character Poll

Toy maker Takara Tomy asked fans of to choose their favorite Haikyu!! character as part of its ongoing tie-in card game and merchandise campaign. Fans were able to vote once a day from May 12-31.

Haikyu!!, like many sports series, is particularly popular with female audiences. Despite a bevy of athletic males to choose from, the most unlikely character won by a landslide.

#1: Vice Principal - 271,014 votes

#2: Shoyo Hinata - 55,652 votes

#3: Tobio Kageyama - 55,050 votes

#4: Kōshi Sugawara - 31,672 votes

#5: Tooru Oikawa - 28,993 votes

#6: Ryūnosuke Tanaka - 23,016 votes

#7: Yui Michimiya - 10,949 votes

#8: Kiyoko Shimizu - 9,290 votes

#9: Hajime Iwaizumi - 8,968 votes

#10: Yu Nishinoya - 7,560 votes

A total of 560,584 votes were cast in the poll. There's no telling what the vice principal's mass appeal is, or if a group decided to get together and organize his win for a good laugh.
