Lupin III Live-action Poster and Standees Provide a Sense of Class to Movie Houses

posted on by Chris Nishijima
Even the greatest thief the world has ever known knows that movie piracy is wrong.

For almost fifty years, Lupin III has been stealing some of the world's most priceless treasures, and doing it in style. Now, he's bringing his high class level thievery to the big screen and the third dimension. In order to prepare for the movie, beginning July 19, theaters throughout Japan will be receiving large posters featuring the main cast of the film. The posters will be sure to catch every customer's eye, as they will measure in at about 1.8 x 3.8 meters (about 5.9 x 12.5 ft.).

Theaters will also be receiving life-sized, cardboard standees of the five main characters of the Lupin III franchise and movie: Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, Fujiko Mine, Inspector Koichi Zenigata, and of course, the king of crooks himself, Arsène Lupin III. But these cutouts are doing more than just making the characters look pretty. Each of them will come equipped with a different request for movie patrons, including advising them not to smoke, to turn off their cell phones, and (a bit ironically) not to pirate the movie.

Lupin III will be hitting theaters starting August 30 of this year. Staring Shun Ogara as the iconic titular character, the movie will chronicle Lupin III working alongside with his usual dream team of crime as they attempt to steal the "Crimson Heart of Cleopatra" from the fortress known as the "Ark of Navarone." It is to be directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and distributed by the Toho Company.
