A Writer Uncovered Yoshi's Long Lost Name And It's A Mouthful
posted on by Bamboo Dong
Nintendo's Yoshi has a first name, and it's not Y-O-S-H-I. In fact, it doesn't even start with Y. It starts with a "T," although the jury's still out on what the T itself stands for.
According to an official 1993 Nintendo character guide unearthed by Console Wars author Blake Harris, Yoshi's full name is T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas. Apparently, Mario isn't really human either—he belongs to a species called Homo nintendonus, which... actually explains a lot.
Wait, Yoshi's real name is T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas??!! pic.twitter.com/ObgEnoiLAG

Interestingly, the character guide—originally published to help the employees of licensing companies keep their facts straight—includes a lot of strange unknown tidbits, like the fact that Link almost killed Zelda, and Princess Toadstool's dress is literally magically clean.
Perhaps most bizarre of all is that all of this is just coming to light now, after 21 years, but as they say, it's better late than never.
Thanks to Daniel Zelter for the tip!
