Life-Size Patlabor Ingram Watched Over the Tokyo Marathon

posted on by Bamboo Dong

Plenty of onlookers crowded Tokyo's streets to cheer on this year's runners of the Tokyo Marathon, but none were more prominent than a life-size Patlabor AV-98 Ingram, which has been making its way around the country from baseball games to shopping malls.

The Ingram has a sash draped on it that says, "Let's go runners! The battle in the capital lies ahead!" along with the Patlabor film's May 1 premiere date.

Ethiopian runners Endeshaw Negesse and Berhane Dibaba won the race, with times of 2:06:00 and 2:23:15 respectively. Many others were just happy to be there, and as usual, plenty showed up in costume:

The life-size Ingram model is one of two created at the cost of several tens of millions of yen (several hundred thousand US dollars). The seventh episode of Mamoru Oshii's live-action The Next Generation -Patlabor- series just screened in Japanese theaters on January 10. A feature film is scheduled to premiere during Japan's Golden Week.
