Nana Mizuki Teaches Us the Proper Way to Eat Eel

posted on by Eric Stimson
Also: three food recommendations

Nana Mizuki (Hinata in Naruto, Fate in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Cure Blossom in Heartcatch Precure!) is now the "image girl" (celebrity spokeswoman) for Nakau, a Japanese restaurant chain specializing in donburi (rice bowls) and noodles. A new commercial featuring Mizuki in a kimono advertises Nakau's eel set meal, Unamabushi, and explains that there are three proper ways of eating the grilled eel: 1) by itself; 2) with the provided toppings; and 3) with the rice, toppings, and dashi (Japanese fish broth) in the bowl. (This is similar to a Japanese dish called ochazuke, essentially rice in tea.)

Mizuki will also provide her voice to Nakau's ticket machines (Japanese chain restaurants often provide machines to pay in exchange for a ticket indicating the order) and sing Nakau's theme song. On Nakau's website, Mizuki introduces her three recommendations from Nakau's menu: their signature oyakodonburi (chicken and eggs rice bowl), udon, and pudding.

Mizuki is also the new image girl for her home prefecture, Ehime. She is also an accomplished singer, and sings Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid's opening theme, "Angel Blossom," among many others.
