Castle in the Sky Flappter Model Great for Play and Display

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

The Premium Bandai site is taking preorders of a model vehicle from one of Studio Ghibli's classic films.

Pre-orders are now being accepted for the Flappter, the motorized flying vessel used in the 1986 movie Castle in the Sky. This detailed piece boasts a wingspan of 421mm (16.5 in) and a rustic brass finish to truly emulate its depiction in the movie.

It also comes with a removable display stand that gives it access to additional features such as headlights and booster lights activated via switch and a crank that, when wound up, makes the Flappter's wings flap up and down as if it were actually flying.

This comprehensive video explains the functionality of the Flappter when placed on its stand.

The Flappter model is currently being sold for 12,960 yen (US$105) and is expected to ship in November. The site is also selling a Laputan robot statue for 3,888 yen (US$31). The robot had the distinguished honor of having its arm appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
