Q Transformers Celebrates Cooking Papa Anniversary, Interviews Main Character

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

The chibi Autobots' radio talk show recently guest-starred the protagonist of Cooking Papa to celebrate the manga's 30th anniversary.

The eighth episode of season two of the anime web series Q Transformers: Kaettekita Convoy no Nazo featured a special guest on its air waves. Three of the Autobots spoke with Kazumi Araiwa, the main character to Cooking Papa to celebrate its launch in Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine 30 years ago. Kazumi was voiced by his original voice actor from the 1992 anime adaptation, Tesshô Genda; Genda also served as the voice for Optimus Prime (Convoy) in the Japanese dub for the original Transformers animated series as well as the recent live-action films. While speaking about his immense presence yet approachable demeanor, Kazumi humored the Autobots by drawing from his classic role and yelling "Autobots, transform and roll out!" for his hosts.

As part of Cooking Papa's anniversary celebration, a special campaign is being held where applicants who can collect the first 130 volumes may be eligible to win a special digital camera that can insert Kazumi Araiwa into pictures. Luckier fans may even win an invitation to a cooking party held at the home of the manga's author, Tochi Ueyama. Other prizes include 10 mini-bales of rice, dorayaki, a kitchen knife, a plate of meat and raw ham.

Cooking Papa is a slice-of-life manga that began in 1985 and tells the story of a salaryman who keeps his talent for cooking a secret by letting his wife take the credit for his meals, being terrible at cooking in her own right. The series is known for displaying detailed recipes of the many dishes featured in its chapters. The manga recently released its 133rd volume and has previously held a celebratory raffle in a previous issue of Weekly Morning.

Q Transformers also guest-starred a protagonist from game series Sengoku Basara.
