Former Ghibli Animator Gives the Low-Down in New Book

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Since Hayao Miyazaki's retirement, books and events looking at never-before-seen materials and discarded projects have been offered to entice fans.

One former Studio Ghibli animator, Hitomi Tateno, is promising further insight into the animation studio with her new book Enpitsu Senki: Dare mo Shiranakatta Studio Ghibli (The Pencil Wars: The Studio Ghibli that Nobody Knew). The book is scheduled for release on November 21 and the studio's 25-year veteran and promises to reveal everything from her own impressions on Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki, and Isao Takahata to her experiences as an image motion checker. Tateno was directly responsible for checking for the fluidity of movement from cel to cel.

The book concludes with Tateno leaving and her life after Studio Ghibli.
