New Osaka Otaku Cafe Is Strictly Nerdy Girls Only

A new cafe is Osaka's Nipponbashi district—the Kansai equivalent of Akihabara—opened on December 26 with a very specific clientele. The Ataraxia Cafe strictly serves female otaku and female otaku only, no ifs ands or buts. The cafe wants to promote an atmosphere where even the shiest fujoshi or female cosplayer can let their hobby flag fly without feeling self-conscious. The staff are also all women.
The cafe offers an all-you-can-drink soft drink bar for 1,580 yen (US$13) and snacks to keep its patrons' appetites full while they dive into their newest dōjinshi purchases.
The cafe even has space set aside to work on hobbies, like tables for sewing costumes or drawing manga. Mannequins are on hand to style wigs and site images show a sewing machine, too.
