Nintendo of America Plans Sale of Seattle Mariners Baseball Team

posted on by Karen Ressler
Former president Hiroshi Yamauchi bought the team in 1992

Nintendo announced on Thursday that Nintendo of America has begun negotiations to sell part of its ownership of the United States Major League baseball team Seattle Mariners to other members of the team's ownership group.

If the deal is finalized, Nintendo of America will still own a 10 percent stake in the team, but will no longer be the principal owner.

Late Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi bought the team himself in 1992, but never attended a game. Nintendo of America has been the principal owner of the team since 2004.

The Mariners are arguably MLB's highest profiled team in Japan because of eight-time All-Star outfielder Ichirō Suzuki.
