Smartphone Game Features Stray Cats Who Turn into Handsome Hunks

posted on by Eric Stimson

The Japanese smartphone game Alchemy of a Stray Cat and Love (Noraneko to Koi no Renkinjutsu) revolves around a familiar premise: a young lady finds herself surrounded by a group of attractive young men with an assortment of hair styles and personality types. The twist in this case is that the lady is an alchemist and the men are all actually Stray Cats, but if the player shows them enough affection, they'll turn into men.

The gameplay requires you to search in your backyard and collect items to cook delicious food for your preferred cat. Later, you can equip them to go on quests and collect items, which can then be reconfigured using alchemy into presents. There are also intense petting and stroking sessions.

As a result of all this attention and affection, "a love story with a stray cat will begin."

The characters:

Clovis (Shinnosuke Tachibana), a black cat. He has an aloof attitude and isn't very good at socializing, but in reality he's lonely and apologizes for his actions.

Mashiro (Toshiki Masuda), a white cat. A princely character with a kind heart, but also a schemer.

Tran (Daiki Yamashita), a tabby cat. He's always chipper and lively, but he makes many mistakes.

Rico (Chiharu Sawashiro), a calico. He's a nerd who's not very mindful of himself and buries himself in his interests. He's also sickly.

Sia (Toshihiko Seki), a Siamese cat. An adult cat with a soft demeanor but a sadistic way of interaction.

Fawn (Hiroki Yasumoto), a Bengal cat. He's a cat of few words, unrefined manners, and a wild personality, but he's gentle and gets along with other animals.

Wedge (Ayumu Murase), a Norwegian Forest cat. Moody and given to sudden shifts in emotion.

Snow (Takehito Koyasu), a Scottish Fold. "Frank and feminist" and full of pheromones, so you can never tell whether he's joking.

Montre (Jōji Nakata), an Egyptian Mau. He's the leader of the Stray Cats and acts as a connection between you and them. His hobby is jumping hurdles.

Alchemy of a Stray Cat and Love is available for the iOS 6.0 and above and Android 4.1 and above and can be downloaded for free (although there are fees later) at the App Store and Google Play. If you prefer Egyptian gods, grotesque monsters, or amorphous blobs, Japan has you covered too.
