One Piece's Luffy, Chopper Make Cameo in Usagi Rope Anime

posted on by Amanda Ellard

On Thursday, One Piece's Luffy and Chōpper appeared on the Kami-Usagi Rope: Warau Asa ni wa Fuku Kitarutte Majissu ka!? anime, which airs within the Mezamashi TV program on Fuji TV. The collaboration episode, titled "Pirate Ship," is part of the build-up to this Saturday's premiere of One Piece Film Gold. Mayumi Tanaka, voice of Luffy, and Ikue Ōtani, Chōpper, joined as special guests for the episode.

Both Tanaka and Otani commented on the collaboration prior to the episode's broadcast. "I like Kami-Usagi Rope's chill feel," Tanaka said. "I look forward to the finished product that will show the differing degrees of enthusiasm between Rope's characters and Luffy and Chōpper's deep personalities."

Otani added, "I look forward to seeing what kind of world will be presented in the collaboration between the surreal feeling of Kami-Usagi Rope and the fiery One Piece."

Kami-Usagi Rope was originally a set of comedic shorts, created by Yūji Uchiyama. The anime series now runs on Fuji TV's morning program Mezamashi TV and involves a high school rabbit named Rope and his quick-tempered squirrel friend Akira, who together hold random conversations as they walk through their working-class neighborhood. The anime also received a feature-length film in 2012.

The show also had cameos from Despicable Me minions to commemorate last summer's Minions movie and Assassination Classroom's Koro-sensei in light of the live-action film that opened on March 25.
