posted on by Eric Stimson
Hits stores in November

The 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) dominated the video game industry in the late 1980s, an era that is fondly remembered by Nintendo fans as the company's high-water mark. It was also the time when many of Nintendo's most cherished franchises began. While nostalgic gamers face steep hurdles when trying to play NES games today, such as cartridge issues and the difficulty in finding many games at all, Nintendo is stepping in with a solution: a miniature version of the original NES, complete with 30 classic video games included in the package.

The NES Classic Edition will come with:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Bubble Bobble
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong, Jr.
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • Final Fantasy
  • Galaga
  • Ghosts 'n' Goblins
  • Gradius
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby's Adventure
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Mario Bros.
  • Mega Man 2
  • Metroid
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Pac-Man
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • Super C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Nintendo streamed a preview video of the console on Thursday.

The system is expected to go on sale on November 11 for a retail price of US$59.99, which includes an HDMI cable, an AC adapter, and a NES Classic Controller; controllers will also be sold separately for US$9.99. Wii and Wii U owners—who can already play a large selection of NES games via Nintendo's Virtual Console—can use use this controller for NES games on their newer consoles.
