Love Live! Sunshine!! Drops for New Game! in 2016 Summer Poll

The Japanese anime and video game character website Charapedia asked viewers to weigh in on which summer 2016 anime they're still watching each week. The same site asked users last month to cast their vote for the most anticipated show of the season. Love Live! Sunshine!! was Japan's top choice but the idol show has given up its throne for the workplace comedy New Game!

In fact, many of the top contenders at the start of the season have taken a nosedive. Food Wars! The Second Plate was heavily favored overall and in men's votes and was also the top choice for ANN readers. Currently it barely breaks the top 20, sitting at at #16. The only top consistent choice is female voter's continued love for The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

The poll ran from July 28 to August 3, with approximately 10,000 votes cast. The voters were 49.6% male and 50.4% female. 66.6% were in their teens or twenties, and 33.4% were in their thirties or above. Participants were able to choose from a list of 49 currently airing summer shows.

New Game! follows the everyday adventures of the all-female staff at the video game company Eaglejump. However, it was far more popular among male voters than female, not even scraping into the top 10 for female voters. New Game! is based on a 4-koma manga by Shōtarō Tokunō and is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

The 2nd place winner was Sweetness & Lightning. Based on Gido Amagakure's manga of the same name, the show centers around high school teacher Kohei Inuzuka, who is learning to cook along with his young daughter and one of his students after the death of his wife. It was also more popular among male voters than female, but it did make it into female voters' top 10, ranking in at #2 for men and #8 for women. Sweetness & Lightning is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
