Marina Inoue Will Scold Internet Users via AI Chat Program

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Voice actress Marina Inoue (Attack on Titan's Armin, Owarimonogatari's Sodachi, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!'s Yumiko) will scold internet users as the voice of a new AI chat program character. Sony Music Entertainment and the Institute of Language Understanding co-developed a new AI called "Project Samantha." The AI uses personality data to provide a variety of services. Currently in beta, so far the project includes chat programs that allow users to talk with characters from manga, anime, and novels.

One of the characters is Motoko created by artist and character designer mebae (6HP - Six Hearts Princess, C – Control – The Money and Soul of Possibility). Motoko is an "abusive girl" (batō shōjo) who responds to users based on what they say. Users can chat with her on pixiv starting on Thursday until August 15. The character responds with both text, stamps, and voice messages.

Since her launch, Motoko has "abused" 2,746,377 users. The character originates from mebae's manga Bāto Shōjo. The manga's compiled volume goes on sale on August 9.

Project Samantha uses K-laei artificial intelligence, a combination of the latest natural language understanding system (NLU) and machine learning (NLP). It also has access to the GAIA and URANUS knowledge databases and the Semantic Substance Sampler that allows it to infer intention and emotion from users' input and continue to learn.
