Super Heroine Boy Manga Shows Tough Guy Addicted to Precure-Like Anime

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Do you know a guy who's rough around the edges but secretly has a soft spot for shōjo anime? If so, Parari's Super Heroine Boy manga may be the series for him. The first compiled book volume just shipped in Japan on Friday.

The story begins when, one morning, juvenile delinquent Wataru Ōishi suddenly and unexpectedly watches an anime targeted at young girls. Wataru causes mayhem and disrespects adults all day long. He thinks it's idiotic for someone like him to watch that sort of thing, but the anime gradually captivates him.

In the beginning of the first chapter, "Boy Meets Girl" (seen below), Wataru catches himself watching a magical girl anime that looks suspiciously similar to Precure. The heroine in particular resembles the protagonist of Maho Girls Precure!, the Precure franchise's latest television anime, as well as other main characters from the long-running series.

When Wataru begins watching Alice Shojō-tai Shiny Heart, he emphasizes his disgust at anime while the story's young heroine impresses him with her strength. In the anime, a fierce lion says he will board a plane to return to the savannah, and he demands that the heroine get out of his way. But the mighty lion doesn't scare the girl, and its true form is revealed as a cute stuffed animal. While watching the anime, Wataru can't look away and eventually gives up the attempt.

Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's Comic Ruelle manga website began serializing the manga in April. Parari's story of the anime-addicted, hoodie-wearing delinquent with pierced ears is the artist's first series. Various retailers throughout Japan are offering exclusive goods to people who purchase the first volume at their stores.
