Comiket's Table Layout Reveals Most Popular KanColle Characters

posted on by Eric Stimson
Over 2,000 Kan Colle circles scheduled for convention

If you're curious about which characters in the vast Kan Colle fleet have the largest fan followings, this winter's Comic Market (Comiket) offers a clue. The table layout for the Kan Colle section on December 29 has been published, which lays out where the circles (dōjinshi artist groups) specializing in Kan Colle art will sit. Although many of them are organized by format (novels, artbooks, CDs, etc.), the majority are grouped by which characters they portray.

The Sixth Destroyer Division, led by Hibiki, has the largest contingent, with a total of 62 circles devoted to it. The Shiratsuyu class also has a strong showing, with 58 circles. Yūdachi and Shigure are the most popular characters in this class, with 16 or 17 tables each. The Kongō class comes third, with 33 or 34 tables. Fans of the Mutsuki and Fubuki classes will also find many options: both have blocks of 30 circles focused on them. Murakumo is the most popular character in the latter class (Mutsuki ships are not separated individually).

Other character groups with lots of circles include the Kagerō class (28), German battleships (22), Kaga (22), and the Kuma class (18), Kitakami in particular. The total number of Kan Colle circles at winter Comiket is 2,161.

Hibiki and the Shiratsuyu class also did well in a tally of pixiv fan art in January. Fubuki and Akagi topped a fan poll by Goo Ranking in 2015.
