Ten Count Manga's Aquarium Date Café Features AR Experience

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Rihito Takarai's boys-love manga Ten Count is getting its own café in Harajuku's Area-Q café in Tokyo from March 10 to April 2. The "Double 10 count - Secret Party" event celebrates the 10th anniversary of Takarai's debut as a manga creator.

The event's theme is the aquarium date that Kurose and Shirotani have in the original manga. The café will feature an augmented-reality (AR) experience that offers a peak into the pair's date at the aquarium. Visitors will be able to capture an image of Kurose and Shirotani in front of an aquarium backdrop.

The café's food menu includes "Seafood Tomato Cream Risotto" and lunch and dinner plates inspired by the two main characters. The cost of food in included in the admission price. People who order from the dessert and drink menu will receive exclusive coasters.

Other highlights of the café include the screening of an "original novel game video" (pictured below), art reproductions and large panels, and a display of Kurose and Shirotani dolls made for the event. Guests will receive special lunch mats, business cards, and figures as favors.

Merchandise available at the event includes:

Hood bath towels with ears (two varieties)
3,900 yen (US$34)

Thermo-mugs (two varieties)
2,500 yen (US$22)

IC card case
1,700 yen (US$15)

Clear files (three varieties)
500 yen (US$4)

Memo stand capsule toys
500 yen (US$4)

Tomoaki Maeno and Shinnosuke Tachibana recorded announcements that will play at the café. Maeno voiced Kurose, and Tachibana voiced Shirotani for the manga's drama CD. The event is accepting questions for Kurose and Tachibana through a Twitter campaign from February 8 to February 19. Answers to some of the questions will be displayed at the event.

Fans who want to visit the café must make reservations in advance. The Area-Q website will begin selling tickets on Friday at 12:00 p.m. JST.

Viz Media's SuBLime boys-love imprint licensed Takarai's manga. The North American company will release the third compiled book volume on February 14.

In the manga's story, Shirotani Tadaomi, secretary of a company president, meets Riku Kurose, a counselor. After he gives Shirotani a diagnosis for mysophobia, Shirotani ends up attending his counseling sessions.
