Real Escape Game Holds Space Brothers 'Astronaut Selection Exam'

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Have you ever dreamed of becoming an astronaut? While it can't provide official certification, SCRAP is collaborating with Space Brothers to offer the next best thing. The company's Real Escape Games are partnering with the franchise to hold an "Astronaut Selection Exam" beginning on March 17. Fans will be able to relive some of the challenges that Mutta encountered when he took astronaut exams in the manga and anime.

First, participants must take a web exam, and only people who pass the web portion will be able to move on to the practical exam. For the web exam, participants use an online interface (pictured below) to try to rescue Mutta and his companions from the moon. Hiroaki Hirata, voice of Mutta Nanba in the anime, made new recordings for first part of the exam. The online test will take an average of 90 minutes to complete.

In the 90-minute practical skills test, participants must escape a module that looks like a space station. The practical exam will be held in both Tokyo and Osaka.

SCRAP fan club members can begin taking the web exam on March 14, and the general web exam period will open on March 17. The practical exam will debut in Tokyo on April 20 and in Osaka on April 27. The first part of the exam will cost 1,500 yen (US$13), and the second part will cost 4,500 yen (US$40).

SCRAP's "Escape From the Moon Base" Real Escape Game stumped most of its participants when it ran in San Francisco in 2014. Only 16 of the 451 teams were able to escape a moon base before it ran out of oxygen. A Space Brothers "Real Treasure Hunt Event" was also held in 2014.
