Renovated Train Station Offers Ultimate 'Kabe-Don' Photo Op

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

"Kabe-don", the act of "trapping" a person against a wall using one's arms, has more or less become a romance manga cliche. The dramatic staple has never completely faded, appearing in pizza commercials and anime photo ops. The city of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka prefecture are having a little fun with concept while also encouraging tourists to disembark at its Ogura Station.

The station was recently renovated and the city's Manga Museum are overseeing seven photo ops measuring 22 meters in length. Most refer to landmarks in the area but one is a large "kabe-don" wall where the move was apparently done with such intensity that it shattered the space behind it.

Officials are hoping that the photo ops help spread the word about the renovated station via social media. Prior to the renovations, visitors complained that the station was "dark and scary." Changes began in October and were completed on March 10.
